Episode 1: How it all started

2 bitters, 1 punk IPA.

Large glass of red.

No cigarettes, plenty of play-off 🏈.

Too many pretzels.

Hi, my name is Pete or Pedro, either or. My friends call me Pedro. I talk, a lot. Hence the inclusion of ‘zipit’ in one of my email addresses. Austin Powers was big at the time! That’s stuck with me for the best part of 25yrs, since my Uni days in Lancaster. When I started there, we didn’t really know about the internet and me and my mates only went out and bought mobile phones in maybe our second or third year. Can you believe that in this day and age? Chicken oriental!! And as for iPhones and smart phones, on my original Motorola I could store about 50 numbers and I got 40mins free per month! Mind you, if required, you could easily take someone out with that handset it was so cumbersome.

Anyway, on to how it all started. My wife (short suffering, but suffering nonetheless) Mazz_B and I watched a documentary about Bridget Jones author Helen Fielding, not my choice but I strangely enjoyed it nonetheless. I never realised that the Bridget Jones thing all started as a weekly blog in The Independent. The things you learn watching random documentaries hey! That’s the first event that has triggered these musings, or mumblings depending on who’s asking. And also the beer/wine/sports/nibbles run down at the start, I’m not sure how long that’s going to last but it’s fun for now.

The other event was a lockdown 3.0 sleepover. We were lucky enough to bubble up with our friends Martin and Louise around the corner, and thought over the Xmas period it might be nice to throw the kids in their ready beds and crack open some prosecco and a few beers and stick some old Top of the Pops gold on the BBC iPlayer as background noise. So long as JB the 9-month old son and heir stayed asleep we should be onto a winner! So anyway, it turns out, after boring everyone with interesting-ish facts about songs, singers and bands featured, it was suggested I start a blog. I think this was an elaborate rouse to shut me up. It worked…and here we are!

Random thought that’s just come into my head whilst eating a fish finger butty for lunch, did anyone else think the Bermuda Triangle was going to have a lot bigger impact on their lives than it has, or just me? Tbh with you it hardly really gets talked about anymore.

So I’m going to leave it here for now, I’m sure you’ll get the opportunity to learn a bit more about me as the blog develops, if you can be bothered continuing to follow. As is standard when reading a literary classic, I’ll leave you wanting more…

Next time. Episode 2: 2021 Tunes playlist. Morphed from 2020, a bit like the Rona!

Things to be grateful for: Trump is no longer President. Conor McGregor got TKO’d.

“And Conor. You can get stoned by Obie. You 32-yrs old, you don’t know me. You’re too old, it’s over. (nobody listens to techno)”

Without Me. Eminem, 2002. Lyrics adapted for this blog by Pedro, 2021 😉
